《Albanian Carpet》

Siroka is a fishing village on the shores of Lake Scudra, near the border with Montenegro. For centuries, the inhabitants lived off the lake, with men fishing in small rowboats and women tending orchards or hand-woven rugs by the lake.

The “Albanian Rug” project was inspired by an Albanian traditional room (ODA) and features a long, low U-shaped bench where family members can sit, lie and even sleep.

The sidewalks, seats and steps are laid in a huge carpet of black and white granite stones interwoven according to the traditional pattern of Albanian rugs, providing a unique domestic character to the public spaces.

The inner side of the U-shape is restrained and made of wood, while the outer side is made of stone and forms steps for seats, turning the central square into an impromptu theater.
